Three Essentials for Your Next Bathroom Remodel
Three Essentials for Your Next Bathroom Remodel
Bathroom remodels can be incredibly exciting! Your bathroom becomes a blank canvas, and the colors and choices on your palette are seemingly endless. Before you dive headfirst into cabinet colors, floor tile choices, and choosing a perfectly soothing shower head, however, take a few minutes to think about the following three essentials for a successful bathroom remodel.
The Top 3 Must-Haves for a Successful Remodel
A Coherent Theme
It can be easy to let your imagination run wild, but at some point you are going to have to eliminate most of the color options from your palette to ensure that your new bathroom looks like a cohesive space. While you might love the idea of a beachy feel for your vanity and a sophisticated marble tub surround, having these two themes in the same room is highly unlikely to create a finished product that you love.
To make the space as relaxing and pleasing to the eye as possible, we recommend choosing one style and one main color for the entire room. If you are set on having a marble tub surround, use the same marble for your vanity and choose floor tile that complements one of the veins in the marble. Once your elegant marble bathroom is complete, you can always remodel a secondary bathroom in an oceanside style!
Lighting
No matter how beautiful the tile and countertops you choose, they will look drab and dreary without proper lighting. Ideal bathroom lighting is a balanced mix of natural light (if it is available), ambient lighting (for the entire room), and task lighting (focused light for specific tasks). Not enough ambient light makes your bathroom feel dark (especially at night when there is no natural light); not enough task lighting makes it difficult to put on your makeup or put your contact lenses in.
Storage
Even if you are the type of person who loves the convenience of having all your styling products out on your vanity, you will still want some extra storage space for cleaning supplies, first-aid items, and extra towels. It is human nature to fill up the space we have available, so we recommend designing your new bathroom with at least a little more storage space than you think you will need.
Storage can come in many forms to fit your style: cloth bins that slide into an open cabinet under a bench, a deep linen closet, cabinets set into the wall (with or without doors), and, of course, cabinets under your bathroom sink. Be sure to incorporate at least a couple of these options to avoid future frustration. Who knows - if you have plenty of extra storage space, you might just decide to move some of your styling products off of the counter so you can see more of your new countertop!
These are a few of the most common essentials that homeowners overlook when planning a bathroom remodel. If you want a little help designing a new bathroom that incorporates these (and many more) tips, our bathroom design experts are here to help!
